Fire Joker Hire Mike Leach
After Tennessee whips our tails for the 27th straight time today and we watch how unprepared and motivated our team was can we fire Joker Smith and his staff so we can enter the off season with some hope of a better year next year? Oh by the way thanks to Joker we won't have to hear the coaches and team complain about going to the Music City Bowl in Nashville this year because we WON'T BE GOING TO A BOWL THIS YEAR!!!!!!!! Please fire Joker and hire Mike Leach!

I do not like Leach
and have stated so several times here on this forum. Too much baggage; trouble with the media; would have already had a job if the people that know thought he was innocent. Kevin Sumlin and June Jones are the two hot names right now. Neither is at a BCS school and likely would consider taking a BCS job. The trouble for UK is there are several jobs that are more attractive that may open up soon. Arizona State is going to be open. Rumors are floating that Texas may come open. Then there is that Penn State Job/mess. Other jobs will pop open as the season ends. A smart AD should have a list of perhaps a half dozen or more canidates and work the list hard to get a good replacement.

What Did Leach Do That Should End His Career?
Mike Leach had a player set inside a dark tool shed as punishment for not playing hard. If this player can't handle that he couldn't be a major college player. My high school coach did worse than that. Come on people. So Leach has an ego. Does anyone think Cal doesn't have an ego. Any coach worth two cents has an ego. I personally don't care if Leach kisses the Lexington Heralds butt or not. I want a football coach something we've not had too many times in our history. Get rid of Joker and hire Leach. I'm tired of promoting assistant coaches that can't coach on this level and can't recruit.

I do not know how....
the same exact post happens to be listed in a thread more than once by our friends at the Hearld Leader. I have seen it happen often to other posters. And in this thread one of my posts showed up THREE freaking times. Hell, my posts are hardly worth reading once....let alone three darn times.

Yep, Erickson is done
according to my sources at Az State. And the Ohio State job is not settled as I type this. Meyers was suppose to have it but now he says maybe not and no deal yet. Texas is interesting--they are having a second poor season for them after having a losing record last year. And they have lost to OU badly the last couple of years. If the Aggies get them Friday they may be looking to move Brown. A lot of movement in the FCS coaching ranks is in the offing.

Look at it this way...
suppose Coach Cal was 10-12 yrs older, had a losing record last year and did not make any tourney, had his lunch eaten by Louisville the past couple of seasons, and had a so/so season this year.....being a non factor in the conference race? Texas football fans are just like UK basketball fans except there are a lot more of them. And the adminstration cannot have a program that is below expected standards and keep that ESPN contract. Mack best beat those Aggies tomorrow.

Mute point now...
because the Horns did eek out a victory over the Aggies. Brown is likely safe for now. But he best turn it around down there next season. The last thing the University of Texas wants to do is lose all that ESPN money...

Hall of Famer or not....
they dump them quick at Texas and Oklahoma if they do not win at football. I am old enough to see Texas oust Darrell Royal because he could not beat OU and Oklahoma force out Bud Wilkinson because he was losing to Texas too often. The pay in those football jobs is great but the pressure is intense. NOW THE IMPORTANT STUFF. Interesting quote by Vaught. And what is your take on Jennifer Smith story in the online edition of this very paper.. the LHL? Do you think Barnhart is avoiding the press so he does not have to give an up or down answer on Joker? Do you feel that the media is beginnng to feel something may be up by even writing such stories?

Pepper: IF...IF..if....
Barnhart decides (or is forced) to make a change after the game tomorrow do you have confidence that he knows how to hire a fb coach? Will he follow a process and make a good hire that might turn out well? And another question. Who do you think will he turn to for help (if anyone) in selecting a list of canidates? Rich Brooks? Unlike many who post here and on other forums I think Barnhart is a smart guy. He does a good job in many ways. However, he needs to do a better job hiring coaches for the major programs. Obviously Cal was a good hire. But BCG, well....enough said. Many liked Rich Brooks but I think it was a poor hire who was given too much time. And then there was Joker.....

Brooks came to UK ....
with a long record at Oregon. In 18 seasons he was 91-109 overall and 56-79 in the Pac 10. He did win one conference title with a 9-4 record (where was USC, UCLA, Wash at that season?). He was then a bust with the Rams and out of fb for a while. Aging with a very medicore record made him a perfect canidate for the UK job. Guy Morriss had served most of the UK probation and Brooks was given the job or recruiting and rebuilding. He again achived mediocre results having eight wins twice and getting UK to four low level bowl games in seven lllllonnnnnnnnngggggg seasons. He was indeed mediocre: good enough to win the easy ones; not good enough to win against the big boys. Rich Brooks was what he was. He could lead a program only so far and his resume prior to UK showed that. He was more of a surrender hire than anything else. He was a gift to the culture of negativity that has surrounded UK so long...."we are UK and we just do not deserve to be REALLY GOOD in football." A few of us do not buy into that culture and are trying to change it. I think we are making progress...slow, steady progress.

well if we are pretending we should copnsider
Leach. At the same time we can pretend he did not cross over political correctness at T T. I heard his interview not long ago. I think once the media decides to let go of its insane pouncing he would be fine. In America you can make all the mistakes imagineable except in 2 areas. If you are a member of the GOP, or if you do anything (ANYTHING) that could be interpreted or misinterpreted as racist. Democrats are allowed most anything and all other categories are almost assured of getting away with Murder. And because of that, an easy target is just that, an easy target. Letting Joker go and taking Mike leach is not a politically correct move. This is why I would always make the politically incorrect move to begin with when hiring any coach. That way your baseline is free of the finger pointing from then on. That coach that used to coach for U of L seems to be doing pretty good. There was never any big secret that he would or wouldn't.. I always hoped Pitino lieaving UK for the pros and coming back to UofL was the logical path for Pitrino to follow once he left the pros. But you know ....huih..the .500 struck again.

How is Maxwell Smith doing with his hurts and possible shoulder injury. Have you heard anything?

Probable does not sound good.
starting sounds a whole lot better. Some great athletes potentially...........were it not for injury prone. that was me. Should have gone to a smaller college until matured more, or should have just kicked.

Apparently Newton has also
Apparently Newton has also healed enough to play if necessary. Before anyone cringes at that prospect, remember that we have no one else besides Newton if Smith takes another hit on the shoulder and can't go. Who knows, perhaps the lay-off will prove to have been good for Newton, and maybe the change in styles would be confusing to the Tennessee defense. Obviously I hope Smith plays and plays well, but at least we won't go to some totally unknown quantity if something bad happens. Still can't shake the feeling that it doesn't matter who plays, however.

Newton To Tight End, Wide Receiver, Or Transfer
Newton is no quarterback and we need to ackowledge that so he doesn't get in the way of the Towles kid next year. Move him to receiver or tight end or encourage him to leave.

Newton playing against UT could be the W recipe.
Remember, I am 2 QB system advocate. I played QB in college. The answer to the 2 QB system is simple. Maker sure the 1 and 2 QB's spend lots of time with 1 and 2 center. the entire 2-QB misfire syndrome stems froms the QB dreading the missed snap. Trust me. I played the position for 8 years. Once the QB has full confidence there will be no mis-snap, he then is free to concentrate on the open slant audible, and right hand or left hand play. Once he has those 3 covered he is ready to execute A. who is the RB and how does he receive the hand off and B the defense alignment. Some QB's start the other direction in reverse but that is the 1 QB offense scenario. It takes an open minded coach to understand the players needs and have success. Now if the coach DEMANDS the QB walk up to the line and then stand up and look back at the sideline for the play, then in retrospect, I wopuld transfer. If you take the slant audible away from me at the 4th step out of the huddle, find anther QB.
